Previous studies found that “misfit” is the main factor that causes ERP implementation failure. In order to solve the “misfit” problem, two main adaptation approaches were suggested during the ERP implementation: BPR and Customization. This research aims to propose an empirical framework for guiding firms to choose proper implementation strategies based on their differences. It also analyzes the relationship between implementation choices and organizational performance.

A sample of 150 US firms were used to examine the research model. The results have illustrated that different industries, organizational managements and implementation approach affect the implementation choices. Further, it combined the two adaptation approaches and divided into four different implementation strategies which can view as a guideline for the firms who are going to implement ERP in the future.
